JUNE 2006 DISTRICT 1 REPORT:
Andy Argenio, District I Vice President
WELCOME TO the
second AMA District I-sponsored event for 2008. This will be
an open fun-fly and air show taking place at the University
of Rhode Island Annual Balloon Festival as advertised below.
The Balloon Festival is the main fundraiser for the
Wakefield Rotary Club. Since its beginning, the Rotary Club
has raised more than $1,000,000 and 100% of the proceeds are
placed back into the community to address many of today’s
most critical issues including children at risk, poverty and
hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence.
The AMA South County R/C Club (SCRCC)
of Kingston, Rhode Island, is the hosting club for the air
show entertainment at the Balloon Festival. The club
provides one of the main highlights and draws with numerous
model aircraft flown and displayed for the entertainment of
the tens of thousands of spectators who attend each year.
There are selected times during the event for celebrity show
performances and to participate in flying aerobatic, warbird,
Scale, and helicopters.
This is one of the few events
in the district that your entire family will enjoy. Don’t
miss out on all the entertainment— especially the famous
Wallendas High Wire Act and the Saturday night fireworks!
Thank you, SCRCC members, for your yearly participation in
the URI Balloon Festival.
This is a perfect example of how an AMA club can partner
with another association such as the Rotary Club and do
something good for its community, promote the club, and
ensure its future and the future of aeromodeling.
